JSW Energy acquires power firm to boost thermal portfolio

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Jun 14: JSW Energy has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100 per cent equity in Maruti Clean Coal & Power Ltd (MCCPL), strengthening its presence in the thermal power sector.

The company said the acquisition has been undertaken through agreements with Kolahai Infotech Pvt Ltd and SFI Parcel Services Pvt Ltd, the existing shareholders of MCCPL. Upon completion of the transaction, MCCPL will become a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Energy.

The acquisition is aimed at expanding JSW Energy's thermal generation portfolio and enhancing its operational capabilities in the conventional power segment. The move comes as the company continues to pursue growth opportunities across the energy value chain while maintaining a balanced generation mix.

Industry analysts view the deal as a strategic step by JSW Energy to strengthen its position in India's growing power market amid rising electricity demand and increasing investments in energy infrastructure.

The company has not disclosed the financial details of the transaction. The acquisition is subject to customary approvals and closing conditions.

With the addition of MCCPL, JSW Energy is expected to further consolidate its footprint in the thermal power segment while continuing its expansion across renewable and conventional energy businesses.
