Udupi, June 14: In a move aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving commuter safety, authorities have opened the Ambalpady flyover to one-way traffic from Mangaluru towards Kundapur.
The decision was taken after the service road beneath the flyover was severely affected by large potholes and waterlogging, making travel difficult and hazardous for motorists. Considering the hardships faced by the public, the flyover has been temporarily opened for one-way traffic to ensure smoother vehicular movement.
Officials said the other carriageway of the flyover will be opened to traffic on Monday, facilitating movement in both directions.

The temporary arrangement has been introduced as an urgent measure to provide relief to commuters while authorities work to address the issues affecting the service road.
It was further stated that repair works on the damaged service road will be taken up on a priority basis once traffic congestion in the area eases.
The inspection and decision to open the flyover were carried out in the presence of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, former Udupi CMC member Harish Shetty, BJP Yuva Morcha president Prithviraj Shetty, vice-president Gajendra S Pelemane, general secretaries Abhiraj Suvarna and Pradeep Kunder, along with several other party leaders and local representatives.
The temporary opening of the flyover is expected to bring immediate relief to commuters using the busy corridor, while authorities undertake measures to restore the damaged service road and improve traffic conditions in the area.
