Mangalore, Mar 16: Chandragupta, the then assistant superintendent of police in Puttur, and who was in charge of investigating the murders committed by alleged serial killer, Mohan Kumar, said that Mohan always used mobile phones of the girls for calling, and took care never to make calls from his own cell phone.

He was replying to questions posed to him by special public prosecutor, Cheyyabba Beary, in the fast track court on Thursday March 15.

“While investigating the case of taking a woman to a lodge in Hassan and murdering her later, it transpired that Mohan had made calls by using the mobile phone of a girl from Madikeri. He used that phone to call the landline in the house of Anita from Barimaru,” he said.

In his cross examination, Mohan Kumar questioned Chandragupta as to whether he had been arrested on the basis of the mobile calls list of Anita. Chandragupa said this was not the only basis, and that the policemen relied on various other evidences while arresting him. Mohan also raised a few more questions to the police officer.

Replying to the query about whether case of illegal sale has been registered against Mohammed, who allegedly supplied cyanide to Mohan, Chandragupta said that a case had been registered against him after preliminary enquiry. He also negated the allegation that the policemen had made use of fake witnesses while registering missing complaint about Anita.
