Beltangady, Jun 16: A vehicle carrying officers of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the controversial alleged burial case in Dharmasthala overturned on the winding Charmadi Ghat road on Tuesday, June 16, after the driver reportedly lost control at a sharp bend. Four persons, including SIT superintendent of police C A Simon, were injured in the mishap.

The accident occurred while a team of investigators was travelling from the SIT office in Beltangady to Chikkamagaluru as part of the ongoing probe into the high-profile case.

Sources said the officers were heading to Chikkamagaluru to meet the district superintendent of police and SIT investigating officer Jitendra Kumar Dayama to discuss the progress of the investigation and determine the next course of action.

The Toyota Innova in which the team was travelling reportedly went out of control while negotiating a curve along the ghat stretch, causing it to overturn on the road.

Among those injured were SIT SP C A Simon, inspector Kusumadhar, police constable Manjunath, and the driver of the vehicle.

The force of the impact caused the vehicle to turn turtle, trapping the occupants inside and resulting in injuries to all four. Witnesses stated that local residents and passing motorists rushed to the scene within minutes of the accident, joining the rescue efforts and helping pull the injured officers out of the wreckage.

The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Preliminary reports indicate that all four escaped with minor injuries and are currently out of danger.

Police from the local jurisdiction later visited the accident site, carried out an inspection, and ensured that traffic movement along the busy ghat road was restored without major disruptions.
