Bantwal: Tipper rolls back during repairs, driver crushed to death

Bantwal, Jun 18: A tipper lorry driver was killed after the vehicle suddenly rolled backwards and ran over him while he was attempting to repair a technical fault. The incident occurred on Thursday, June 18, at Peruvadi Gudda in Padekallu of Karopady village in Bantwal taluk.

The deceased has been identified as Mahesh, a resident of Bandaru in Beltangady taluk.

Large lorries had been regularly transporting soil from Peruvadi Saravu Gudda to other states. At around 10 am, a tipper lorry driven by Mahesh had been brought to the site for the removal of excess soil.

According to reports, a technical fault developed in the lorry, following which Mahesh stopped the vehicle and went underneath it to carry out repairs. During this time, the lorry suddenly began moving backwards. As a result, Mahesh was trapped under the front wheel and died on the spot in the tragic accident.

Local workers and drivers of the Kanyana Sadguru Ambulance immediately launched a rescue operation. They retrieved the body from beneath the lorry and shifted it to the government hospital in Vittal.

Vittal police visited the spot and gathered information regarding the incident.
