India crush Netherlands by 95 runs in Women’s T20 World Cup

Leeds, Jun 18: India registered a commanding 95-run victory over the Netherlands in a Group A match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at Headingley in Leeds on Thursday.

Opting to bat first, India posted a formidable 209 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs, powered by impressive knocks from openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma.

Mandhana top-scored with a fluent 74, while Shafali contributed 55, laying a strong foundation for the team’s imposing total.

In reply, the Netherlands struggled to keep pace with the required run rate and were bowled out for 114 in 17.3 overs.

India’s bowlers dominated proceedings, with Shree Charani leading the attack by claiming four wickets. Shafali Verma also made an impact with the ball, picking up three wickets, while Nandani Sharma chipped in with two scalps.

For her all-round contribution and match-winning innings at the top of the order, Smriti Mandhana was named Player of the Match.

Meanwhile, in another Group A fixture, West Indies will take on Scotland at Headingley in Leeds later tonight. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 pm IST.
