Udupi: Malpe police arrest theft accused absconding for 13 years

Udupi, Jun 19: Malpe police have arrested a theft accused who had been absconding for nearly 13 years and had failed to appear before the court in connection with a theft case.

The arrested accused has been identified as Madhu alias Umesh, a resident of Bidaganahalli village in Channarayapatna taluk of Hassan district.

A case had been registered regarding the theft of money from the donation box (hundi) of a temple near Kappettu in Ambalapady. The accused had remained absconding and had not appeared before the court for around 13 years.

Acting under the leadership of Malpe police sub-inspector Anil Kumar, warrant staff members Vishwanath H and Mohammed Rafi traced and arrested the accused near Channarayapatna in Hassan district on June 18 and brought him to the police station.

The accused was subsequently produced before the court. The court remanded him to judicial custody till June 29 and ordered that he be lodged at the Hiriyadka District Prison.
