Mangaluru: Srinivas University city campus celebrates International Yoga Day

Mangaluru, Jun 21: With the blessings of founder chancellor Dr CA A Raghavendra Rao and under the guidance of the honourable chancellor Dr A Srinivas Rao, Srinivas University City Campus, Pandeshwar, Mangaluru, celebrated International Yoga Day 2026 with great enthusiasm on Saturday, June 20, at the College Auditorium.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Ajay Kumar, registrar (development), Srinivas University, and guest of honour, highlighted the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life. He emphasised that yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a holistic practice that promotes physical fitness, mental well-being, emotional balance, and stress management. He encouraged faculty members and staffs to make yoga a regular habit for leading healthier and more productive lives.

Delivering the yoga session, Amita Ganesh Shetty, yoga instructor and founder of Yoga Dhara, Mangaluru, explained the significance of celebrating International Yoga Day on June 21, a date recognised by the United Nations following India’s proposal to promote global awareness of yoga.

She also spoke about the theme of International Yoga Day 2026, “Yoga for Healthy ageing” emphasising the role of yoga in promoting physical vitality, mental well-being, emotional resilience, and overall quality of life as people age.

She highlighted how regular yoga practice helps maintain flexibility, strength, balance, and inner peace, enabling individuals to lead healthier and more active lives. She guided the participants through various yoga postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques while explaining their benefits.

Faculty members and staff from various constituent institutes of the City Campus actively participated in the programme, including the Institute of Hotel Management & Tourism (IHMT), Institute of Physiotherapy, Institute of Education, Institute of Management & Commerce (IMC), and Institute of Port Shipping & Logistics Management.

Among those present were Prof B Prashanth Prabhu, dean, Institute of Hotel Management & Tourism; Dr Thrishala Noronha, dean, Institute of Physiotherapy; Dr Padmanabha C H, dean, Institute of Education; and Dr Venkatesh Amin, dean, Institute of Management & Commerce. Swathi, yoga instructor.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Dr Premkumar, while the proceedings were efficiently compered by Dr Aishwarya Sonwane. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Venkatesh Amin.
