Mangaluru, Jun 21: In a vibrant celebration of health, harmony, and mindfulness, Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, celebrated International Yoga Day 2026 with great zeal and enthusiasm. The programme, meticulously organised and gracefully presented by the students of grade IX A and B, beautifully reflected the timeless wisdom and transformative power of yoga.
The celebration commenced on a serene note with a prayer service, creating an atmosphere of peace and reflection. A graceful welcome dance followed, captivating the audience and setting the stage for an inspiring morning. Christon and Chelsia extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, Dr Krishna Sharma, retired professor and chairman, Human Consciousness and Yogic Sciences, Mangalore University. They introduced the chief guest to the audience and ushered everyone into a celebration dedicated to wellness and inner balance.

One of the highlights of the programme was a meaningful skit that portrayed the significance of yoga in modern life, emphasising its role in fostering physical fitness, mental clarity, and emotional well-being. The audience was then treated to a spectacular yoga display, during which students performed a series of asanas with remarkable discipline, flexibility, and precision, showcasing the true essence of yogic practice.
Adding colour and energy to the event were a thought-provoking street play, a melodious group song, and an enthusiastic dance performance. Through their creativity and talent, the students conveyed a powerful message on the importance of adopting a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
The chief guest, Dr Krishna Sharma, inspired the gathering with his insightful address, encouraging everyone to embrace yoga not merely as an exercise but as a way of life. Highlighting the theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” he emphasised that healthy ageing begins with the habits cultivated in youth.
He encouraged students to take small yet meaningful steps each day towards maintaining good physical, mental, and emotional health through regular yoga practice, balanced diet, and self-discipline. He further motivated the students to synchronise the body, mind, and intelligence to achieve holistic well-being and inner harmony
The programme flowed seamlessly under the confident compering of Yash, Vaidoorya, Lisa, and Aaron, whose poise and enthusiasm kept the audience engaged throughout. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Kynon and Sweedal, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, teachers, students, and all those who contributed to the success of the celebration.
The observance drew to a fitting close with the singing of the National Anthem, leaving everyone inspired by yoga’s enduring message of unity, self-discipline, and holistic well-being. The celebration served as a gentle reminder that yoga is not merely a practice for a day but a lifelong journey towards a healthier, happier, and more harmonious existence.
Adding further spirit to the occasion, the cubs, bulbuls, scouts and guides enthusiastically participated by performing various yogasanas, demonstrating their commitment to physical fitness, discipline, and inner balance. Their energetic participation reflected the values of teamwork, perseverance, and healthy living that yoga seeks to promote.
Extending the school’s presence beyond the campus, the NCC cadets and members of the scouts and guides also took part in the International Yoga Day celebrations held at the Fr Muller Indoor Stadium. The programme was organised by the Coast District Headquarters No 3, Mangaluru and brought together participants from various institutions in a collective expression of wellness, unity and national spirit through yoga.
Through these meaningful initiatives, the school reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing not only academic excellence but also the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of its students. As the echoes of the day’s celebrations lingered, the message remained clear - when embraced with sincerity and consistency, yoga becomes a guiding force towards a life of balance, resilience and inner peace.
