New Delhi, Jun 22: Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Ishan Bhatnagar has secured the All India Rank 5 (AIR 5) in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025. His remarkable achievement highlights the importance of consistent effort, time management, and a highly structured preparation strategy.

Prior to this achievement, Bhatnagar cleared the examination on his first attempt, securing an All India Rank of 276. This earned him a position in the IRS, where he commenced training as an assistant commissioner of income tax. Despite his demanding training schedule and official responsibilities, he remained determined to improve his rank and continued his exam preparation with disciplined focus. His perseverance paid off significantly on his second attempt, catapulting him to the top five candidates in the country.

Bhatnagar has maintained an excellent academic record throughout his educational journey. He completed his schooling at Delhi Public School in Bhopal, building a strong foundation in core subjects like history, geography, economics, and science. He later pursued a BA LLB (Hons) from the National Law University, Delhi, where he excelled and earned several accolades in constitutional law, administrative law, arbitration law, and sociology.

For the UPSC mains examination, Bhatnagar chose sociology as his optional subject. The subject provided him with a valuable framework to understand social structures, governance challenges, and societal issues, which proved highly beneficial for both his optional papers and the general studies sections. His conceptual clarity enabled him to write analytical and well-structured answers, ultimately contributing to his strong overall performance and top-tier ranking in the 2025 examinations.
