Mangalore, Mar 17:
In a move to upgrade internal communication and make it more efficient and quick, a new system named 'Simplee K' (acronym for 'smart information messenger for public and law enforcement engagement Karnataka') will be introduced in the Udupi-Chikmagalur bypoll, informed IGP (western range) Pratap Reddy while interacting with reporters here on Saturday March 17.

With this system, booth supervisors and sector police officers deputed on election duty would send text message to special police control room number 9901199011, stating developments at the election booth on the day of voting. They will type SP ('situation peaceful') or SR ('safely reached'), leave a space and type the details and send it to the aforesaid mobile number.

He pointed out that in the recent stone-pelting incident reported in Gangolli, police were informed through this communication system and within a few minutes police personnel reached the spot.

In case of any untoward incident at the voting booth, the police officer in charge will send the SMS as EM, together with initial details of the incident to the mobile number, Reddy added.

Justwings, a Hyderbad-based company has developed the software. The system will enable two-way communication as even the receiver of the message can reply. Already, 1633 mobile numbers have been registered, he said adding, "In this system database of all police stations will be easily accessible. This system in future can be introduced to track details on law and order, complaints, traffic accident.

He ruled out the possibility of anyone misusing this facility as the mobile numbers of the staff are registered beforehand, having been taken from internal data of the department.
