Mangaluru, June 24: Retired priests of the Diocese of Mangalore received a boost to their mobility needs after Abu Dhabi-based entrepreneur and philanthropist Leo Rodrigues and his wife Laveena Rodrigues donated a new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga to St Zuze Vaz Home, a residence dedicated to retired clergy.
The vehicle was formally handed over and blessed during a ceremony held at the Bishop's house in Kodialbail. Bishop of Mangalore, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, presided over the event, blessed the vehicle and expressed gratitude to the Rodrigues family for their generous contribution towards the welfare of senior priests.




The newly donated vehicle will be used to facilitate travel, medical appointments and other logistical requirements of the retired priests residing at St Zuze Vaz Home, ensuring safer and more comfortable transportation.
Leo Rodrigues, a well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist based in Abu Dhabi, is recognised for his community leadership and charitable activities. He currently serves as president of the Konkani Cultural Organisation (KCO), Abu Dhabi.
Several senior diocesan officials were present on the occasion. Among them were Rev Msgr Maxim L Noronha, vicar general of the Diocese; Dr Victor George Dsouza, Chancellor; Fr Maxim Rosario, Diocesan Estate Officer; Fr Edwin Vincent Correa, financial administrator of the Diocese; Fr Alwyn Richard Dsouza, guardian of St Zuze Vaz Home; Fr Rupesh Madtha, Diocesan PRO; Fr Ivan Dsouza, secretary to the Bishop; and Fr Pradeep Clarence Rodrigues, assistant estate manager.
The Diocese of Mangalore expressed its appreciation to Leo and Laveena Rodrigues for their continued generosity and steadfast support to the Church and the wider community. The donation is expected to significantly assist the day-to-day transportation needs of the retired clergy residing at St Zuze Vaz Home.
