Mangaluru, Jun 24: In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old pregnant girl died by suicide by hanging herself at her residence around 4 pm on April 23. Following a complaint filed by her parents, the Surathkal police have registered a case against a youth under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, rape, and abetment to suicide.
The deceased minor girl's identity has been protected and is referred to as Nisha (name changed). The accused has been identified as Aneesh Poojary.

Victim alleges accused a right-winger; Hindu organisations did not help
According to police sources, Nisha left behind a suicide note addressed to her parents before taking the extreme step. In the note, she expressed deep regret, stating that she had made a "mistake" and noted that the accused "is happy." She also made a poignant allegation that although the accused was associated with Hindu organisations, these groups did not step forward to help her in her distress.
Rape under pretext of marriage
The victim's parents approached the Surathkal police station at around 11 pm on the day of the incident to lodge a formal complaint. They revealed that their minor daughter was pregnant and held Aneesh responsible for her death. In the complaint, the parents stated that Nisha had confided in them, disclosing that the accused had sexually assaulted her after giving false assurances of marriage.
Based on the parents' complaint, the police registered an FIR at 1 am against Aneesh Poojary under sections pertaining to rape, POCSO, and abetment to suicide.
DNA test and manhunt
The police have completed the post-mortem examination. Medical authorities have collected the foetus for DNA profiling to strengthen the evidentiary backing of the case.
The accused is currently absconding, and a dedicated police team has been deputed to track him down and secure his arrest. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
