Kaup: Illegal sand stockpile seized from Pangal Mattu riverbank

Kaup, Jun 25: Kaup police have detected a case of illegal sand extraction and storage from the Papanashini river at Pangal Mattu and seized the stockpiled sand from the riverbank.

According to police, sub-inspector Shubhakara, who was on rounds duty on June 23, received information about illegal sand being extracted and stored along the riverbank. Acting on the tip-off, he visited the spot and found approximately three units of sand illegally piled up and stored on the bank of the river.

Police seized the sand and also recovered fibre baskets and spades believed to have been used for the extraction activity.

A search was conducted in the surrounding area for boats allegedly used to transport the sand, but no boats were found. The persons involved in the illegal activity had also fled the spot before the police arrived.

A case has been registered at Kaup police station, and further investigation is underway.
