Panaji, Jun 25: Residents have renewed their demand for immediate road safety improvements at the accident-prone Marcel Junction on the Betki-Khandola-Amona stretch in North Goa, citing a rise in road accidents and growing risks to commuters.
Located near the Betki-Amona bridge, the junction has emerged as a major accident black spot due to its sharp curves, steep gradients, merging traffic and heavy movement of trucks and other commercial vehicles.

Locals said the hazardous road conditions have resulted in frequent accidents, prompting concerns over the safety of motorists and pedestrians using the route.
Among the key demands raised by residents is the installation of a traffic island to regulate vehicle movement and reduce the possibility of collisions at the busy intersection. They believe such a measure would significantly improve traffic flow and road safety.
Residents have also called for better road signage, speed-calming measures, improved street lighting and increased deployment of traffic police personnel in the area.
Stressing the need for immediate intervention, locals urged the authorities to implement both short-term and long-term safety measures to prevent further accidents and ensure safer travel through Marcel Junction.
They warned that delaying corrective action could lead to more serious mishaps at one of North Goa's most accident-prone road stretches.
