Mangaluru, Jun 25: A series of engaging and interactive learning activities were conducted for UKG students of Mount Carmel Central School, to enhance their understanding of mathematical concepts, Language, and Family through hands-on and play-based experiences.

The ‘Fun with numbers – Number value & place value’ activity focused on developing children's understanding of numbers from 1 to 20. The concept of ones and tens was introduced in a simple and engaging manner. Children participated in colouring activities, matching games, number tree activities, and hands-on learning using bottles and straws to represent two-digit numbers. Creative craft activities were also conducted to represent the values of 10 and 20, helping children understand that 20 are equal to 2 tens.

In vowels and consonants activity, children were introduced to the basic concepts of grammar. They learned that the English alphabet has 26 letters, of which A, E, I, O, and U are vowels, while the remaining 21 letters are consonants. Through songs, games, picture cards, word-sorting activities, and interactive discussions, students practiced identifying vowels and consonants in words. This strengthened their letter recognition skills and laid a strong foundation for reading.

‘My Family’ helped children understand the importance of family members and their roles. Through discussions, picture cards, family charts, and sharing about their own families, children learned to identify family members and appreciate the love, care, and support they receive at home. The activities encouraged communication skills, social interaction, and respect for family values.

These enjoyable and experiential learning activities, strengthened their skills in communication, letter recognition, counting, one-to-one interaction and conceptual understanding. The activities made learning meaningful, enjoyable, and memorable.
