St Joseph Engineering College achieves prestigious NBA Tier-I accreditation for three UG programmes

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jun 25: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, is proud to announce that its undergraduate programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), and Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) have been awarded the prestigious Tier-I accreditation by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the institution’s journey towards academic excellence and quality assurance.

The accreditation has been granted under the NBA Tier-I July 2024 accreditation document, following a comprehensive evaluation conducted by an NBA expert team during its visit to the institution from May 8 to 10. Based on the recommendations of the visiting team and the decision of the competent authority of NBA, the three programmes have been accredited for the period from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2028.

With this achievement, St Joseph Engineering College becomes the first autonomous engineering college in Dakshina Kannada district to secure the NBA Tier-I accreditation, a distinction that reflects the institution’s unwavering commitment to academic quality, outcome-based education, innovation, industry relevance, and continuous improvement.

NBA accreditation is a nationally recognised quality benchmark for technical education. Tier-I accreditation is awarded to programmes offered by autonomous institutions that demonstrate excellence in curriculum design, teaching-learning processes, student outcomes, industry engagement, research contributions, governance, and continuous quality enhancement. Graduates from NBA-accredited programmes gain wider recognition of their qualifications both nationally and internationally, particularly among countries that are signatories to the Washington Accord.

The NBA evaluation team highly appreciated the college’s robust academic ecosystem, state-of-the-art infrastructure, committed management, qualified faculty members, student achievements, industry collaborations, and the effective implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) practices. OBE has been the cornerstone of engineering education quality assurance in India since the country became a signatory to the Washington Accord in 2014.

The accredited programmes at SJEC have a strong legacy of quality. These programmes were first accredited under the OBE framework in 2013 and have successfully maintained accreditation status through successive cycles. The latest Tier-I accreditation further reinforces the institution’s sustained commitment to excellence and places these programmes among a select group of engineering programmes with a long-standing record of quality assurance and continuous improvement.

Established in 2002, St Joseph Engineering College is currently celebrating 25 years of excellence in engineering education. The institution, which enjoys autonomous status under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, has emerged as one of the most preferred destinations for engineering aspirants in the coastal Karnataka region. With a vibrant academic environment, modern infrastructure, excellent placement opportunities, accomplished faculty, strong industry partnerships, and active encouragement of technical, cultural, sports, and community engagement activities, SJEC continues to nurture competent professionals and responsible citizens.

The management, principal, faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents, and industry partners of SJEC have expressed immense pride and gratitude for this achievement. The institution remains committed to further strengthening its quality initiatives and extending accreditation excellence to all its academic programmes in the years ahead.
