Gadag, Jun 27: In a shocking display of negligence that has triggered widespread public outrage, a father was caught riding his motorcycle with his young child stuffed inside the vehicle's luggage side bag.

The incident occurred in Gadag town as the biker was travelling from Tippu Circle towards the deputy commissioner's office. He had crammed his toddler inside the narrow side box of the two-wheeler, treating the child like cargo. The child was tightly packed inside the bag with only its head protruding out.

Startled by the dangerous sight, commuters snapped photographs and shared them on social media platforms, where the images went viral within hours.

Following the public uproar, the Gadag police swiftly swung into action. By tracking the registration number of the motorcycle, the police identified the rider and summoned him for questioning. The man reportedly tried to downplay the act, claiming he did it while returning from the market.

The police severely reprimanded the father for playing with the toddler's life and endangering their safety. A hefty fine was imposed on him, along with a strict warning against repeating such reckless behaviour.

Citizens have expressed deep anger over the father's antics, pointing out that even a slight loss of balance could have resulted in a fatal accident. Officials noted that the act constitutes a grave offense under the Motor Vehicles Act as well as child safety laws.
