Udupi, Jun 27: A lorry carrying paper boxes from Athrady to Hubballi overturned after reportedly skidding on ready-mix concrete spilled on the road near the Canara Bank junction at Kelaparkala, Parkala, in the early hours of Saturday.

According to sources, the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle after its tyres slipped on the concrete and gravel mixture allegedly spilled by ready-mix concrete trucks. The lorry overturned, sustaining extensive damage.

Diesel also leaked from the vehicle following the accident, raising safety concerns. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

Local residents alleged that ready-mix concrete trucks frequently spill concrete and gravel along this stretch, making the road slippery and hazardous for motorists. They said vehicle breakdowns and accidents have become a common occurrence in the area.
