Puttur: Uppinangady police arrest absconding accused in 2005 burglary case after 16 years

Puttur, Jun 27: Uppinangady police have arrested an accused who had been absconding and evading trial for nearly 16 years in a 2005 burglary case and produced him before court.

The accused has been identified as Mada Swamy, a resident of Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu.

He was an accused in Uppinangady police station Crime No. 09/2005 registered under Sections 457 and 380 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to police, the accused had been evading court proceedings for nearly 16 years after failing to appear for trial and had remained on the run since then.

Acting on credible information, Uppinangady Police personnel HC 826 and HC 331 traced and apprehended him from Krishnanagar. He was subsequently produced before the jurisdictional court.

The court remanded the accused to judicial custody.
