Karnataka Crisis: Yeddy 'Hijacks' 55 MLAs, Resort Drama Again

Bangalore, Mar 19 (PTI) : Ruling BJP in Karnataka today plunged into a crisis with former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa intensifying his power struggle by claiming support of over half of party MLAs and demanded that the central leadership convene a legislature party meet within 48 hours.

"55 legislators are here today. 15 more will join tomorrow. I am confident that the BJP central leadership will take note of all these developments and take an appropriate decision as soon as possible," said Yeddyurappa, who is making a renewed bid to get the party to reinstate him as Chief Minister.

The BJP has a strength of 120 legislators, including the Speaker, in the 224-member Assembly.

"Wait for 48 hours. It is not a deadline. I am sure the party leadership will take a decision", he said, apparently indicating that the BJP leadership will have to take a call on his demand for reinstating him as Chief Minister before his successor D V Sadananda Gowda presents his maiden budget in the state Assembly on March 21.

He was talking to reporters after holding a meeting with his supporters at his residence here.
At the meeting, Yeddyurappa loyalists decided to submit a memorandum to BJP President Nitin Gadkari seeking a legislature party meeting.

The BJP Karnataka strongman, who is keen on presenting the budget himself, has set the new deadline hoping to regain the lost chair, even as the state unit party president K S Eswarappa firmly ruled out change of guard.

Amid the crisis, Chief Minister Gowda celebrated his 59th birthday on a low key and declared he would present the budget. Gowda, who called on Siddganga Mutt seer Shivakumara Swamy at Tumkur to seek his blessings on his birthday, however, ducked a query on the leadership change demand by Yeddyurappa faction, remarking "it will be decided by central leadership".

Refusing to take note of the show of strength by Yeddyurappa, Gowda said he had seen several political crisis in the past and added "I am sure I will face the current political crisis successfully".

Meanwhile, Minister for Municipal Administration Bhalachandra Jarkiholi expressed unhappiness over the dissidence activities in the party and threatened  to quit Assembly membership along with 19 others.

"I am willing to resign my Assembly membership. There are at least 19 more MLAs who are ready to quit. Let the party dissolve the state Assembly after the budget. We can no longer tolerate the troubles created by Yeddyurappa," Jarkiholi said.

Yeddyurappa, however, brushed aside reports of infighting in the party, claiming the BJP was "united".

"There is no division in BJP. We are all united," he told reporters here, when asked about factionalism within BJP.

Yeddyurappa has been contending that the BJP central leadership should fulfil its promise to reinstate him as the Chief Minister as it had assured him the chair once the High Court quashes an FIR filed against him in an illegal mining case.

On March 8, the High Court cleared him in the case.

The BJP central leadership had forced Yeddyurappa to quit in July 2011 after he was indicted by the Lokyukta report on illegal mining that had caused a political storm in the state.

After meeting his loyalists today, Yeddyurappa ferried them to a private resort, where they are likely to stay for two days and await the BJP central leadership's response to his demand, sources close to him said.

This is the third deadline given by Yeddyurappa to the BJP central leadership to reinstate him as Chief Minister.

Earlier he had set January 14 and Februry 27 as deadlines, which the BJP ignored. Yeddyurappa expressed confidence that he would be able to lead Karnataka to the number one spot in terms of development in the country if he is made the Chief Minister.

"Even in the next one year, I can make Karnataka a number one state," he said.

On the presence of Rural Development Minister Jagadish Shettar at the meeting, whom Yeddyurappa defeated during elections to choose the BJP legislature party leader in August last year, the former Chief Minister said Shettar had been in the "other camp for different reasons. Today he is also with us."

Shettar, who lost out in the race for chief ministership to Gowda on August three, has been identified with the Yeddyurappa camp as he is reportedly unhappy with Gowda's style of functioning.

The Minister had even played a key role in organising a birthday bash for Yeddyurappa in Hubli on March 11.

Yeddyurappa had planned to parade his supporters before Gadkari on February 24, when the party had organised 'Chintan Manthan', a brain storming session for its MLAs, MPs and Ministers, but was forced to drop the plan after the party president warned him against it.

The 70-year-old Lingayat strongman has stepped up pressure on the party leadership to reinstate him as Chief Minister following the High Court quashing the corruption case against him.

However, in a major setback, the Supreme Court appointed Central Empowered Committee yesterday issued summons to Yeddyurappa seeking his appearance before it in connection with its ongoing probe into illegal mining.

Yeddyurappa's counsel Ashok Harnahalli, a former Advocate General, would be appearing before the CEC, sources close to the leader said.

In another development B P Harish, a staunch Yeddyurappa loyalist, demanded that the legislature party meet be convened in 24 hours to decide the leadership issue.

    @NAGESH NAYAK/BENGALORE,

You have made a very basic wrong statement. It should have been "kudos to Shriman Yeddyourappa and his supporters for showing solidarity for making swamis richer"

Honble High court didnt give Yeddy a clean chit, nor it delivered its verdict, but only rejected it on technical grounds that the accused must be given a chance of self defense. Dont fool the readers. There is no public demand for reinstatement of Yeddy. Public doesnt constitute Nagesh nayak alone. Puttaswamy was rewarded with rebel ticket for his loyalty. But he failed to realise that its a dummy ticket. Now whole of karnataka knows how honest and sincere Yeddy is. How much power hungry he is. When he dies, he should be made to sit i the replica of CMs chair and alongn with this chair his pyre should be lit. Or else his ghost shall haunt the Vidhana Soudha until doomsday.

May his greed rest in eternal peace and may he bcome a selfless person.

Many on the forum are seen to be telling that the CM is targeted because he is a vokkaliga or a gowda. For your information he comes from a very respected family. There is nothing less being a vokkaliga or a gowda,a caste of kings who ruled Karnataka once.It is unfortunate how people are often heared saying,he is a "gowda",the minute someone appears a bit unclean.Shame on those people!!!!When bala gangadhar swami told that the CM is being targeted because he is a vokkaliga,he meant, since the lingayath community which BSY and his supporters belong to always have problems with the vokkaligas.

Very funny words by our political analyst and BJP agent Shreeman Nagesh Nayakji,Bangaloorgi.....
SRIMAAN YEDIYURAPPAJI MADE IT CLEAR DURING HIS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION THAT HE IS NOT ASPIRING TO BECOME CM AGAIN. I watch karnataka news on TV channels
While sleeping he says this.Morning when he gets up he is changing his statement. Nagesh you are saying SRIMAAN PUTTASWAMY,MOST RESPECTIBLE POLITICAL SECRETARY OF STATE TOLD THAT SRIMAAN YEDIYURAPPAJI WILL LEAVE THE CM POST EVEN IF HE IS INVOLVED IN A SMALL CURRUPTION CASE. When biscuit is thrown to street dog it shakes its tail for that. Statements have no value in politics. It may change next day.
Iam sure that Yeddiji is having a thirst for leadership and thats why when there were allegations on him with too much difficulty BJP high comand could convince him to get down from his chair.Nageshanna also says BUT ITS MLA’S AND PEOPLE DEMAND THAT COMPELLED HIM TO TAKE THIS STEP. Who are these barking MLA's and why they are roaming with him to resorts.

They are all together(Even Yeddis enemy Jagadish Shettar also joined that group) to make a new plan that How to loot Karnataka further which is not possible now under their own Honest CM. In the same party there are groups and fighting for power with themseles and the scene keep on changes(friend becomes enemy, enemy becomes friend). They are busy in getting power, making money where they have time to think about people. Mr.Nagesh I think God has not given you brain to say right is right and wrong is wrong. With in BJP there is no understanding. Where Mr DVS is wrong? What is the problem to MLA's to serve for people under his leadership? They are not getting any chance to make corruption right..? what do you say...? do not make rubbish comments. get well soon.

I don't find any mistake with him for his crucifixion. You may be a congres or JDS or BJP? When question of our coastal Karnataka comes we should unite n stand with DVS. Forget party's, religion cast n creed n show your solidarity, n fight for DVS survival. Organize peaceful morchas, hunger strikes. We don't want elections now. Our state is under drout. Treasury is empty. Let DVS complete his term. Later it's upto public they want BJP or not? But 5 yrs mandate should be honored. Being congres supporter I don't want fish in troubled water. BJP has lost everything with karnataka politics. It is in the path of no-return, in terms of its own moral credibility and ideology. If State BJP has proved itself, how much corrupt, criminal and greedy one can be. The high command proves itself as bunch of jokers. With almost absolute mandate, BJP can go such low in just with 3years in power, its a miracle, how congress managed and managing the country. Yes, we are one of the top 5 countries in the world, thanks to congress. We could have been still better off, if congress did not ignored corruption issue creeping up the society. Having seen congress making right efforts, it is time to strengthen the congress to an difference, than sticking to a party which has nothing but all differences.

    Dear DVS
If you feel the BJP high command dont have the guts to tame Yeddi this time, i suggest you better come out of BJP beacuse DK people are known for their Integrity than unlike their other colleagues who have joined Yeddi to still eat fodder. The typical example you can see is coastal BLP reps from Angara to Yogesh Bhat to Halady Sreenivas Shetty despite representing their consituency number of times and winning again and again with the confidence of their people irrespective of caste & creed till today never lobbyed for power or ministry despite they were the most capables compared to likes of  Renukacharya & all those rebled who once stood against Yeddi today having Benne Masala Dosa in the resort for breakfast with that same shamless opportunist. After making enough money they have not learent what would be their future if they jump too much.

Just look at your Godfather Janardhan Reddy. Despite enomorous wealth, helcopters, islands, he is rotting in some jail with basic facilities. Its only because of the word BJP people are tolerating you else you deserve only rotten eggs and Chappals. What is the students union doing in Bangalore. ABVP comeon, throw chappals to this YEddi and his chaddi gang if you see them coming togather may be in airport after meeting their nerveless high command. My ADRELINE is pumping here.

If i was student or a organiser in Bangalore, I would have gathered some folks and waited for the opportunity to throw chappals, eggs or stoines or anything possible to this YEddi & his Chaddi gang wehrever I see them. You would just have to walk to station and you can come out as HEROS.Show these people what they deserve.Dont let them to to your houses next time if they ask for votes. I wish DVS and some honest BJPIANS from costal belt resign from the party, appologise with the people and stand independant next toime or join JDS.Thats the only hope for you guys.
But please dont join Congress. Then its from Frying pan to fire for you.

Yeddi for a moment has forgot that the karnataka people has not voted him after seeing his work.
Its only because the emotion that Kumaraswamy betrayed him. BJP has made a mockery of a government. All the government machinery has halted because of these people's drama every 6 months. No wonder if we become Behar or earlier times.
The best solution for the BJP is to sack BSY. Of course the govt will fall. Let elections be held and lets see what people decide. I dont understand why BJP central leadership is this myopic. Karnataka is not that politically important state in national politics. Without BSY perhaps they may lose 5-6 LS seats... so be it. The good will that they will generate across India will be overwhelming.

I can only say that in Karnataka BJP by itself is opposition party to itself. Congress & JDS do not have much work to do than watch whats going on and go & meet governer for tea or Dinner.
Its pain for a Congress Hater like me that this was one alternative. Looking at today's Karnataks Politics, I belive I should support the only other alternative i.e JDS which has some good leaders like YSV Datta, Nanayya etc. If BJP high command do not have the nerves to kick out Yeddi and his chaddi gang this time, I wish some of few Gentlemen in BJP especially from Cosatel Karnataka including DVS to Join JDS , with help of Old Mantric & Tantrik Mr Devegowda's Magic touch make a strong party.

It is a sad story that this is happening in these modern times that too in a so called civilized democratic country. Absolutely selfish leaders and no one cares for the common citizens of the state. He don't have any morality of what's so ever. He is a shameless. Now doing resort politics same as Reddy n Renukacharya. Still some useless guys supports him. Here is the problem with the people who have written against him. Congress and Jd(s) knew that they cannot come to power if Yedurappa remains CM for five years. Hence JD(S) used its person lokayukta Santosh Hegde and Congress used Governor Bharadwaj to frame him. Congress and Jd(S) have succeeded in doing what they wanted. Now BJP should show some spine and re-instate Yedurappa if they want to come back to power in Karnataka...

For mangalore CM Mr. DV Sadananda Gowda "He is being targeted only because he is a Vokkaliga ,Surprising to see so many negative comments inspite of clean chit given by the HIgh Court, If educated youth does not understand this then we are fit to be ruled by east india company, moghuls, now Italian lady and in future by a columbian lady or a robert vadra.

If BJP has any moral left, they have to kick out YEddi at any cost. Dissolve the assemble & throw out all those people from the party who are ready to commit political sucide along with Yeddi. Let it go at the cost of the Government and let there be Presidents rule. Apologise to the people of Karnataka for the mistakes done and regroup and organise BJP with the band of honsest party workers and not the ones who die for power. Its now or never if Yeddi is not thought a lesson. The only reason Yeddi is survising because Nithing Gadkkari has eaten enough fodder during Yeddi-Reddy Saga & thats why Yeddi keeps blackmailing him. Even Advani has told few days back that he Yeddi is not acceptable as a CM and he is ready to quit Active politics if YEddi is made in charge of Karnataka again.
Yeddi may have done some work to get the first BJP govt in Karnataka, but after that he has done unrepairable damage to the party. I really dont have any words to say to this shamless opporunist & am sure atleast the coastal people will throw Chappal to these Yeddi and his gang if ever they come to ask vote by forming a new party. (1)Both sadananda and Yediyurappa were together during Operational Kamala (a process of bribing mlas from other parties).(2) They were together in doing caste politics (3) They were together in supporting Reddys and using mining money for operation kamala . (4)They were supportive to Boppaiayah in disqualifying elected Mlas and thus hanging onto power.
In other words whatever dirty/dangerous monster they created to kill others has turned its back against creaters sadananda and Yeddy and in the verge of eating both of them piece by piece !!! Future is interesting and has reached climax.

When ever i see Yeddi's picture i can see his red face and a pointed tail, he is a devil in disguise. He will not let anybody for that matter be the CM from the BJP. He will destroy the party. Look at the way he threatens the central leaders and look at the way he is holding the central leaders to ransom. Of course Cong will be very happy with the developments as it can clearly see the BJP is in ruins due to internal fighting. It is better to dissolve the assembly or throw Yeddi and issue a whip to all the BJP legislators of being thrown out of the party for 6 years like Uma Barati. She finally came to know she was useless, so she joined back after a long term. By throwing out Yeddi BJP might lose in the short term but will hold up it's image.
