Mangaluru, June 27: In a major milestone for public healthcare in coastal Karnataka, the Cath Lab at Government Wenlock District Hospital has successfully completed 1,000 cardiac procedures within just eight months of its launch in collaboration with KMC Mangaluru.
The state-of-the-art facility, inaugurated on September 21, 2025, under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, has rapidly emerged as a vital centre for advanced cardiac care, offering timely and affordable treatment to patients from coastal Karnataka and neighbouring regions.

Before the Cath Lab became operational, patients suffering cardiac emergencies were often forced to travel to distant hospitals or seek expensive treatment at private healthcare institutions. The project was launched to ensure that patients receive world-class cardiac care irrespective of their financial background.
The Cath Lab is jointly operated by government doctors and cardiac specialists from KMC Mangaluru, making advanced heart procedures available at affordable costs. Economically weaker patients have benefited significantly, with coronary angiography provided free of charge to Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries. Government health schemes, including Ayushman Bharat, have further expanded access to these life-saving services.
According to a release, the Cath Lab offers a wide spectrum of specialised cardiac procedures, including coronary angiography, primary angioplasty, elective angioplasty, complex coronary interventions, treatment for chronic total occlusion (CTO), management of acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), temporary pacemaker implantation, emergency coronary interventions and other critical cardiac care services.
The achievement underscores the growing success of the public-private partnership model in strengthening specialised healthcare services at government hospitals while making advanced cardiac treatment more accessible and affordable for the public.
