Mangalore: Sparkling Event Marks SJEC Decennial College Day

Mangalore, Mar 19: The decennial College Day celebrations of St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor were held here on Sunday March 18, amidst a pleasant evening and a plethora of scintillating music and dance.

The evening began with a formal stage programme at around 5.30 pm the college premises. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangalore presided over the function.

Joseph D’Souza, chairman and MD, Alf Engineering Naik was the chief guest.

Charles Lobo, postmaster general, Goa postal region, Albert D’Souza, chairman, Adel Education Trust Mumbai, Anup Lewis, GM, HR, Scheinder Electric Operating Division Bangalore were the guests of honour. Eric Patrao, dean, Dr Joseph Gonsalves, principal, Dr Rio D’Souza, dean, and Fr Henry Mascarenhas, assistant director were present in the dais.

Winners of various events, rank holders and toppers were honoured with prizes on the occasion.

Albet D’Souza addressing the gathering said that the SJEC has achieved in 10 years what other colleges have not achieved in 25 years.

Charles Lobo asked the students to answer civil service examinations and try to get into government services and help the goverment to render better service to society.

Bishop in his presidential speech thanked all those involved in the task of uplifting the college over the past 10 years. He also said that there is always room for success, and asked the students to climb the ladder of success one by one. He lauded the College for its committed faculty, which he said was the reason for its good results.

Valerian D'Souza welcomed the gathering. Eric Patrao proposed the vote of thanks. Anil Sequeira and Daisy Vaz compered the programme.

The programme then continued with a wonderful cultural treat for the gathered crowd. A variety of dances like Punjabi, Brazilian, semi-classical, devotional, etc, and musical performances sent the crowd into raptures.

The College was entirely illuminated with dazzling lights, which gave the event a grand festive look.
