Kundapur, June 29: A controversy has erupted after a dance performance to a Hindi song was staged during the 20th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held at the premises of the Mahaganapathi Temple in Anegudde, Kundapur taluk.
The incident occurred during the 'Nudi Belaku' cultural programme organised by the Kundapur Taluk unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat as part of the 20th Kannada Literary Conference.
A young woman performed to the popular Hindi song Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai, drawing criticism from sections of the public, who questioned the appropriateness of featuring a non-Kannada song at an event dedicated to promoting Kannada language and literature.

The controversy intensified after critics alleged that the organisers watched the performance without intervening until it had concluded. The incident soon sparked outrage on social media, with several netizens accusing the organisers of negligence and insensitivity to the spirit and objectives of a Kannada literary gathering.
The programme was organised by the Kundapur Taluk unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat in the presence of district president Neelavar Surendra Adiga. The episode has since triggered widespread debate online over the selection, scrutiny and supervision of cultural performances presented at Kannada literary events.
