Boulder falls on Hitachi during hill excavation work in Vamanjoor, driver escapes

Mangaluru, Jun 30: A boulder fell on a Hitachi excavator while hill excavation work was underway for highway construction at Kettikal in Vamanjoor on Monday. The operator of the heavy machinery had a narrow escape in the incident.

The hill section, where a landslide had occurred during last year’s monsoon, was considered risky and excavation work was being carried out as part of the highway project.

Due to the rains, the soil had become loose, causing a boulder to slide down and fall onto the front bucket portion of the Hitachi machine.

The driver immediately moved out of the excavator after noticing the danger and escaped without any injuries. The Hitachi remained stuck in the mud following the impact.

Authorities and workers at the site are assessing the situation while ensuring safety measures during the ongoing excavation work.
