New Jersey, Jul 1: Kylian Mbappe starred with a brace as France produced a commanding display to defeat Sweden 3-0 in the Round of 32 of the FIFA World Cup 2026, sealing their place in the Round of 16.
The 2018 world champions dominated proceedings from the outset and took the lead just before halftime when Mbappe found the back of the net in the 45th minute.

Bradley Barcola doubled France's advantage in the 53rd minute before the impressive combination of Michael Olise and Mbappe struck again. Olise set up Mbappe for his second goal of the match in the 74th minute, putting the result beyond doubt.
The victory sends France into the Round of 16, where they will face Paraguay, who advanced after a stunning win over four-time champions Germany.
Ahead of the Sweden encounter, France head coach Didier Deschamps had expressed confidence in his side's chances while stressing the importance of maintaining composure in the knockout stages.
"Even before the tournament, we were among the favourites. Based on how we have played in our three matches, I do not think that opinion has changed. Our goal is to stay confident. Now we are going into a new phase," Deschamps had said.
He also reminded his players that the knockout rounds leave no room for error.
"It is part of the game, and the players compete to win and know that there are no second chances," he added.
France will now turn their attention to Paraguay, with Deschamps expected to fine-tune his squad as the tournament enters its decisive phase.
