Mangaluru, July 1: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for all anganwadi centres, primary and secondary schools, government-aided and private schools, and pre-university colleges (up to Class 12) across the district on Thursday, July 2, as a precautionary measure following the issuance of a red alert.
The holiday has been declared by Deputy Commissioner Darshan H V based on forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), which have indicated that the prevailing spell of heavy rain is likely to continue across the district.

The deputy commissioner has also issued a series of precautionary directions in view of the weather conditions. Parents have been advised to ensure that children do not venture near low-lying areas, lakes, riverbanks or the seashore, while fishermen have been directed not to venture into the sea.
District- and taluk-level officers have been instructed to remain at their respective headquarters, ensure effective disaster management without any lapse, respond promptly to public complaints, and remain in constant contact with the District Control Room.
Tourists and the general public have also been advised against visiting riverbanks and beaches. Officials of the concerned departments have been directed to open relief centres in all taluks and keep them in a state of readiness to respond to any emergency.
