Puttur, Jul 2: A fire broke out at the house of Adam, a resident of Matha in Uppinangady, on Wednesday evening, destroying household belongings and causing extensive damage.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. A television, electrical appliances, a cupboard, clothes, important documents, and the house's electrical wiring were completely burnt. The loss is estimated to be more than Rs 3 lac.

At the time of the incident, Adam had taken his wife to Uppinangady for medical treatment. Their daughter had also accompanied them. Only their grandchildren, who had returned home from school, were inside the house.

When the children noticed the fire inside the house, they immediately alerted the neighbours. The neighbours gathered and managed to extinguish the blaze. However, by then, most of the household articles had already been destroyed in the fire.

Officials from MESCOM visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
