Udupi, Jul 2: The Udupi Block Congress Committee, under the leadership of its president Ramesh Kanchan, organized a felicitation programme on July 1 to mark various national observance days by honouring individuals for their outstanding service to society.

On the occasion of National Doctors' Day, district surgeon of Udupi Government District Hospital Dr H Ashok was felicitated. Senior Auditor U B Ajith Kumar was honoured in connection with National Chartered Accountants, Udupi District Working Journalists' Association president Subrahmanya G Kurya was recognized on the occasion of National Press Day, and postal employee Nagaraj Shettigar was felicitated to mark National Postal Workers' Day.

The dignitaries were honoured with shawls, garlands and mementoes in recognition of their dedicated service and valuable contributions to society.

Speaking on the occasion, Subrahmanya G Kurya said that he has had the satisfaction of serving in journalism for the past three decades in a non-partisan manner, without harbouring prejudice or animosity. He stressed that journalists should perform their reporting responsibilities with a strong sense of social commitment. Despite the rapid rise of social media, he said, journalism can continue to retain its relevance and credibility through responsible, well-documented and mature reporting. He also expressed his gratitude to Udupi Block Congress Committee president Ramesh Kanchan and the office-bearers for honouring him on the occasion.
