Man arrested, woman rescued in Goa anti-trafficking raid

Panaji, Jul 2: Goa Police have arrested a 33-year-old man and rescued a woman during an anti-human trafficking operation carried out in North Goa district, officials said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Punna Hari Prasad, a native of Telangana currently residing at Arpora in North Goa, was allegedly caught while arriving on a scooter to take the woman to prospective clients for prostitution.

The Crime Branch conducted the raid in the early hours of Wednesday near Palmirna Resort in Calangute, Bardez, following specific information about an alleged prostitution racket.

During the operation, police rescued the woman and arrested the accused, who hails from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district in Telangana.

A case has been registered against him under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

Police said the raid was part of the Crime Branch's ongoing drive against human trafficking and prostitution rackets.

The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Jivba Dalvi.
