Mangaluru, July 2: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for all anganwadi centres, government, aided and private primary and secondary schools, residential schools, as well as pre-university and residential colleges (up to Class 12) in the district on Friday, July 3.

The order, signed by deputy commissioner H V Darshan, comes in view of continued heavy rainfall and an orange alert issued for the region by the India Meteorological Department and the Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority.

The Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has issued a series of precautionary measures following forecasts by the India Meteorological Department and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, Bengaluru, indicating persistent rainfall across the district. With the Orange Alert in force, authorities have activated emergency protocols to ensure public safety.

Officials warned that violation of the holiday order will attract legal action under Section 51(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

Parents have been urged to ensure that children do not venture near low-lying areas, ponds, riversides or seashores. Fishermen have been strictly instructed not to venture into the sea.

District and taluk-level officers have been directed to remain stationed at headquarters and ensure effective disaster management. They have also been asked to respond promptly to public grievances and maintain round-the-clock coordination with the district control room.

Tourists and the general public have been advised to stay away from riversides and beaches. Concerned departments have been instructed to open relief centres in all taluks and keep them in a state of readiness.

For any emergency related to natural disasters, the public may contact the toll-free number 1077 or 0824-2442590.
