Chandigarh, Jul 3: A 36-year-old woman allegedly killed her three children before dying by suicide at her rented house in Punjab's Mansa district, police said on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Sandeep Kaur. Her body was found hanging at the residence on Thursday evening, while the bodies of her three children — 12-year-old Khushpreet Kaur, seven-year-old Samandeep Kaur and her two-year-old son — were found inside the house.

Police suspect that the eldest daughter was administered a poisonous substance, while the two younger children may have been strangled to death. However, officials said the exact cause of death would be confirmed only after the postmortem examination.

Station House Officer Kulwant Singh of City Police Station II, Mansa, said Kaur's husband had died a few months ago and that her mother worked as a daily wage labourer.

Police said the motive behind the suspected murder-suicide is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation is underway.
