Mangaluru: Tahsildar instructs formation of POSH committees in workplaces

Mangaluru, Jul 5: Mangaluru tahsildar T Ramesh Babu has directed officials to take appropriate measures to form POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) committees across all workplaces, including schools, colleges, gram panchayats, and health centres, to ensure a safe working environment and prevent the sexual harassment of women.

He was speaking while presiding over a progress review meeting of various schemes under the department of women and child development, held at the Mangaluru taluk office on Saturday, July 4.

During the meeting, the tahsildar reviewed the progress of several initiatives and committees, including the drug and addiction prohibition scheme, the domestic violence prevention act committee, the Bhagyalakshmi scheme task force, the disabled grievance redressal committee, the anti-human trafficking committee for women and children, the child marriage prohibition committee, the child protection committee, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, and the Matru Vandana scheme committee.

Mangaluru rural child development project officer Shaila K briefed the gathering about the recent developments. She informed that four cases were registered under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act in the Mangaluru rural limits over the last three months, with three of these cases currently in the counseling stage. She also stated that continuous awareness regarding the prohibition of drug consumption and sale is being spread through Anganwadi workers' zonal meetings, mothers' meetings at Anganwadis, and Stree Shakti meetings.

Taluk panchayat executive officer Mahesh Holla, taluk health officer Dr Sujay, and officials from various other departments were present at the meeting.
