17-year-old girl attacked with machete at Bantwal bus stop; accused surrenders

Bantwal, Jul 6: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly attacked with a machete while waiting for a bus to college at the Montimaru Paddu bus stop near Manchi in the jurisdiction of Bantwal Rural police station on Monday morning.

The incident occurred at around 8.45 am when the minor girl was standing at the bus stop waiting to board a bus to her college. The accused, identified as Mohammed Javvar (28), a resident of Manchi in Bantwal, allegedly attacked the girl on her head and hand with a machete in an attempt to kill her.

Sources said the accused runs a grocery shop near the bus stop where the incident took place.

After carrying out the assault, the accused surrendered before the Bantwal Rural police station.

The injured girl was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Deralakatte, Mangaluru, where she is undergoing treatment. Police said she is currently out of danger.

On receiving information about the incident, Bantwal Rural police visited the spot, conducted an inspection and launched an investigation.

The accused is being questioned, and further legal action will be initiated in the case.
