One Killed, Two Missing in Kashmir Avalanche


Srinagar, Mar 20 (IANS): One person has been killed and two are missing in an avalanche in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district, officials said Tuesday.

They were among five people trapped in the avalanche in the north Kashmir area late Monday. Two of the five have been rescued.

"An avalanche rolled down the mountainside in Badwan village of Gurez Tehsil in Bandipora district late Monday, trapping five people. Immediate rescue was started in which three were rescued alive from the debris, one of whom later succumbed to injuries. Two are still trapped and efforts are on to rescue them," Amir Ali, office on special duty at the divisional headquarters, told IANS.

Last month, 18 Indian Army soldiers were killed in another avalanche tragedy in Gurez.
