Four killed as speeding vehicle rams men repairing punctured pickup in UP

Kaushambi, Jul 8: Four persons, including two brothers, were killed after an unidentified vehicle ran over them while they were replacing the punctured tyre of a pickup truck on a highway in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district, police said on Wednesday.

The accident occurred on Tuesday night near Trilokpur village.

According to police, pickup driver Anwar (40) and his associate Ehsan (42) were transporting folding cots to Kanpur when the vehicle developed a flat tyre.

They sought the help of mechanics Sabir (30) and Akbar (32), who were brothers, to replace the damaged tyre on the roadside.

While the four men were changing the tyre, an unidentified speeding vehicle rammed into them, leaving all of them critically injured.

Circle Officer, Sirathu, Satyendra Tiwari said the injured were rushed to the district hospital by ambulance, where doctors declared them dead.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination.

Police have registered a case against the unidentified driver based on a complaint filed by the victims' family members.

Efforts are underway to trace the offending vehicle, and further investigation is in progress, police said.
