13-year-old girl dies, three students critically injured in krait snakebite at Jharkhand hostel

Jharkhand, Jul 9: A 13-year-old girl died and three other students were critically injured after a venomous krait entered the girls' hostel of a private residential school in Jharkhand's Lohardaga district and bit them while they were asleep.

The incident took place on Tuesday night at Sanvasira Higher Secondary Residential School in Rocho Mahuatoli.

According to officials, the students had gone to bed after dinner when the snake entered their room at around 11 pm. It first bit Varsha Oraon, whose screams alerted the other girls. Before anyone could respond, the krait also bit Anisha Oraon, Manisha Kumari and Fulmania Oraon.

Teachers immediately rushed all four students to Lohardaga Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared Varsha dead on arrival.

Fulmania, who remains in critical condition, was referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi for advanced treatment. The other two students are currently undergoing treatment at Lohardaga Sadar Hospital. Authorities are investigating the incident.
