New child development centre ‘Novara Grace’ opens in Mangaluru's Valencia

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jul 10: Novara Grace Center for Child Development and Family Welfare, a new therapy space in Valencia, Sutarpete Road, was blessed and inaugurated on June 28 and began sessions on July 1. Founded by developmental psychologist and behavioural therapist Sheldon Amanna, the centre brings evidence-based therapy together with a family-centred approach for children with neurodevelopmental conditions.

"Therapy in the room is only one part of it," Sheldon said. "We spend just as much time with parents, understanding what's happening at home, and so progress does not stop the moment a session ends. That's what I wanted to build here, close to home: a space that brings together therapy for the child and real guidance for the family."

A Mangaluru native, Sheldon completed his undergraduate studies at the School of Social Work, Mangaluru, before pursuing a Master of Science in Neurodevelopmental Disorders at the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. Following his studies, he worked with children and individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities in the UK before returning to India. He continued his practice during the COVID-19 period and later moved to Bengaluru, where he spent two years gaining further clinical experience. After nearly nine years of working in the field, Sheldon returned to Mangaluru six months ago with a clear vision: to establish a centre that would provide quality developmental services while serving the community he grew up in.

Novara Grace offers speech therapy, occupational therapy and behavioural therapy for children and individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and other neurodevelopmental conditions.

The centre believes that intervention extends far beyond the therapy room. While children receive individualised support during their sessions, equal importance is placed on equipping parents and caregivers with the knowledge and confidence to continue that progress at home and in everyday life. By working closely with the entire family, the centre aims to create consistency in a child's development across different environments.

Designed within a warm, home-like setting in the heart of Valencia, Novara Grace has been created to be a welcoming and comfortable space where children can learn, play, explore and grow at their own pace. The centre hopes to provide not only professional therapeutic services but also a place where families feel understood, supported and empowered throughout their developmental journey.
