Opposition Leader Demands Sadananda Gowda's Resignation

Bangalore, Mar 20  (PTI) : Opposition leader in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah today demanded the resignation of Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, saying his cabinet colleagues and Yeddyurappa loyalists, who abstained from attending house proceedings today, ''have lost faith in him.''

"The Chief Minister should resign as he has lost the confidence of his cabinet colleagues and legislators loyal to former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who abstained from attending house proceedings," he said.

He was referring to the worsening leadership crisis in ruling BJP in Karnataka and Yeddyurappa loyalists boycotting the budget session on the opening day, insisting on an early legislature party meet to elect a new leader.

Siddaramaiah also said Gowda has no moral right to continue in office and there is 'zero governance' in the state.

Deputy Opposition Leader T B Jayachandra objected to the delay in issuing notice on House proceedings.

Replying to the point raised by Jayachandra, Speaker K G Bopaiah said he called the session within time as prescribed by law and moved condolence motion to pay tributes to former minister V S Acharya, who died of a heart attack on February 14.

BJP crisis shadow over Karnataka budget

Bangalore, Mar 20 (IANS) : Karnataka Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda will present the state budget Wednesday as a majority of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators supporting B.S. Yeddyurappa boycotted the assembly session that began here Tuesday.

This will be the last budget of the corruption-scarred BJP's maiden rule in the southern state. Assembly polls are due in April-May next year, though they may be held earlier if the faction-ridden party fails to solve the crisis triggered by Yeddyurappa's demand for re-instatement as chief minister.

Yeddyurappa, who was forced to quit July 31 last year over corruption charges, led a boycott of the budget session that began Tuesday seeking a commitment from party's national leaders that he will be made chief minister again soon. BJP's national leaders seem to have placated him somewhat as he has now dropped the demand that only he should present the budget and not Gowda, who took over from him Aug 4, ironically as his candidate.

Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai, a Yeddyurappa loyalist, told reporters here that the party central leadership "will be sending an emissary to Bangalore to resolve the leadership issue and Gowda will present the budget Wednesday".

The ten-day budget session began with empty BJP benches prompting opposition Congress and Janata Dal-Secular members to mock the ruling party over the infighting for chief minister's post. Claiming the support of around 70 of the 120 BJP members in the 225-member assembly, Yeddyurappa has taken his supporters to a resort on Bangalore outskirts and staying put there.

It is still not clear whether he and all his supporters, which include several ministers, will attend the session Wednesday. His camp had token presence in the house Tuesday - Rural Development Minister Jagadish Shettar and Public Works Minister C. M. Udasi, and two legislators, Lakshminarayan and Chandrakant Bellad.

rightly said 0 but how yeddi can remeber all that - when he is holed up in a resort with his favourite minster (lady of course) i dont know abt his other habits - with wine and liqour flowing and his cheddis massaging him - his cheddis should notice this and realise that they are nothing to him when time comes - same way he showed his sentiments towards his so called best friend Dr. Acharya - yeddi is a hopeless person without any morals

I appreciate ur comments. those were the correct and right comments made abt the elected members of the people who are indulging in enjoyment/crazy politics instead of attending the needs of the people of the area where they are elected from - their thinking of getting elected as MLA MP means haVING FOREIGN LIQOUR / porns (real one) at the resorts and on their mobiles in the V/soudha and how to make more and more money by supporting guys like yedi (get all above mentioned things / plus crores of money for supporting) They are a happy lot - they will never bother for the people who elected them. It is same with all parties - can u suggest - in such scenario what the people should do - i suggest dont vote at all - i think it will not make a difference but the state may be able to save lots of money

All the MLAs who have boycotted the Assembly must be expelled from the House. This is a breach of parliamentary functioning. They have been voted in to work for the people and not sit in a resort. If they were protesting against something valid for the state or people who voted them in, then it can be understood. Severe legal action must be taken against them and they should be barred from standing for elections for 2 terms.

I suppose it is right that DVS resigns since he has lost the confidence of a large majority of his party... He deserves respect if he does, because he can't remain in power at any cost... It is not worth it. But that does not mean Yeddy should take over. He does not deserve any power.... He deserves to be in jail...

Siddaramaya must move no confidence motion in the house tomorrow after the budget is presented. It's insult coastal Kannadigas that BJP MLa's did not attend the house at least to pay tribute to Mr. V. S. Acharya today, in who's name they all begged for votes at Udupi election. Shame on BJP n it's RSS culture. This is really a party with difference sorry difference in opinion. Udupi people should remember this insult during next election. Where is Ragupathi Bhat? Yogish Bhat? Shame on you guys?

No way for Mr.Sadananda Gowda's resignation. We the people of coastal Karnataka elected him. Not you people. There is party principle, party will decide the fate of Mr.Sadananda Gowdaji. He is not power hunger and selfish like you people. He has been elected as state chief minister by the party high command not by his own will. Shut your mouth.Don't think that only with you people whole universe is existing. There are many other people who are patiently watching all your dramas. Fools paradise

Treasury benches KAALI KAALI and CM,DVS lost faith of majority MLAs of his party, that means morally DVS could not continue in the office of the CM and should tender his resignation immediately ,good precedent of democracy to be upheld.

Meantime,Neither BJP High Command defeated nor BSY able to succeed and that means a stalemate continues which virtually standstills day to day operations in the Govt.

What baffling is Guv did not summon CM nor CM did not appraise GUV about the latest development in the politics of the state.

BJP High Command try to buy time or trying to see dissents 'SINE DIE' which could be suicidal on the part of Party.

During time of Yeddy's regime, BJP H.Command did not intervened when Yeddy detoured several times. Now it needs absolute operation which could only save the Party.

Two years before "OPERATION KAMALA"but now need to be KAMALA OPERATION.ELLAUE KAALA CHAKRA.

You are unfit to continue in office.

Why DVS should resign? If one day MLAs are absent, should CM resign? Which logic you are using? Do you have brain in your head?

The opposition parties Demand of CM's resignation is a discussing matter.regarding their demand, agreeing or dis-agreeing can considering issue., because If he he is (CM) failing to get confidence of assembly,as per constitution he should resign only., (even if the most of public intends his continue...he should act as per the constitution only)but here our opposition party is appriciatable only for they showed the evidence to the public that still their existence is there in KARNATAKA LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY.ok congratulations to opposition party for here you have proved that "there is your still existing.... even if it is name sake... "

The Clean CM can take some image build up by dissolving assembly after passing the budget. The MLA's are elected to represent their constituency when the assemblies sessions are on. Karnataka has shown new low in legislative 'maryada'. It is high time to have right to recall the MP or MLA.
