Mangaluru, Jul 11: “The Earth does not need superheroes; it needs responsible Green Warriors,” remarked environmentalist Jeeth Milan Roche, chief guest at the culmination of ‘Prakruthi’ – Go Green Week, held on July 6 at St Aloysius Gonzaga School.
Addressing the gathering, he urged students to protect nature through simple yet meaningful actions such as planting trees, conserving water, reducing plastic use, practising waste segregation and inspiring their families to care for Mother Earth.

Echoing this vision, principal Fr Rohan D'Almeida SJ emphasized that the culmination was not the end of the campaign but the beginning of a lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship. He highlighted the Jesuit value of Caring for Our Common Home and encouraged every student to become a green warrior by participating in the CBSE initiative ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'.
The week-long environmental initiative, conducted from June 29 to July 4 under the theme ‘Protect, Preserve and Prosper', engaged students in a variety of enriching activities designed to promote ecological awareness and sustainable living. Expert sessions on fruit farming by Chethan Shetty, horticulture and agriculture by Poornima Shetty, vertical gardening and sustainable practices by Glavin Rodrigues and creative leaf art by Naveen Adkar inspired students to adopt environmentally responsible habits in their daily lives.
The celebration began with a prayer song followed by the symbolic Navadaniya Ceremony, representing biodiversity, abundance, unity and sustainable living. The ceremony was led by chief guest Jeeth Milan Roche, secretary of Vana Charitable Trust, Mangaluru, principal Fr Rohan D'Almeida SJ, vice principal Aparna Suresh, academic coordinators Deepthi Karkada and Deepa Karkada, science coordinator Shilpa Ballal, teacher representative Sushmitha K S, head boy Aadidev and head girl Rhea Jessica Rego.
The audience was welcomed by Ashish N Joshi of class 8B. A thought-provoking dance drama highlighting the need to protect nature and a video presentation showcasing the week's activities reflected the enthusiastic participation of students in awareness campaigns, plantation drives and hands-on environmental learning experiences.
The programme also featured the prize distribution ceremony, honouring winners of various competitions for their creativity, innovation and commitment to environmental conservation. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Rebecca Nessa D'Souza of class 9B, while Zaara Khazi of class 9C compered the programme.
The Prakruthi – Go Green Week culminated with a renewed pledge by the entire school community to protect, preserve and prosper alongside nature, reaffirming St Aloysius Gonzaga School's commitment to building environmentally conscious and socially responsible citizens. The initiative was coordinated by the science department under the guidance of coordinators Deepa Karkada and Shilpa Ballal.
