Bellingham's double sends England past Norway into World Cup semi-finals

Miami, July 12: Jude Bellingham scored twice, including the decisive goal in extra time, as England staged a comeback to defeat Norway 2-1 and secure a place in the FIFA World Cup semi-finals at Miami Stadium on Sunday.

Norway, appearing in only their first-ever World Cup quarter-final, stunned England by taking the lead in the 36th minute. Andreas Schjelderup's cross-shot beat goalkeeper Jordan Pickford after the Scandinavian side had already threatened through Erling Haaland.

England responded just before the interval when Bellingham surged forward and calmly slotted home the equaliser in first-half stoppage time. Harry Kane appeared to have put England ahead moments later, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Norway believed they had regained the advantage shortly before the hour mark through Torbjorn Heggem, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review detected a foul by Haaland on Elliot Anderson during the build-up.

Thomas Tuchel's side survived further pressure as Kristoffer Ajer's header struck the crossbar, while Djed Spence nearly capitalised on a mistake by Norwegian goalkeeper Orjan Nyland before the match headed into extra time.

England finally found the breakthrough three minutes into the additional period. Nyland failed to hold Morgan Rogers' powerful shot, allowing Bellingham to react first and convert the rebound from close range to seal victory.

The win sends England into their fourth FIFA World Cup semi-final, where they will face the winners of the quarter-final between Argentina and Switzerland in Atlanta.

Bellingham's brace also took his tournament tally to six goals, matching captain Harry Kane. It marks the first time two England players have each scored at least five goals in the same edition of the FIFA World Cup.
