Mangaluru, Jul 13: Burglars broke into a house at Kavattharu near Mulki and decamped with gold ornaments worth lacs of rupees when the inmates were away.
The house, named 'Sri Bhramari' and located near the Panjinadka-Kavattharu main road, belongs to Balakrishna Shettigar. He resided there with his wife Nalinakshi Shettigar, their recently married son Sushil, and his daughter-in-law. While Balakrishna, his son, and his daughter-in-law left for work every morning, Nalinakshi usually stayed at home.
The incident took place on Saturday when Nalinakshi also left home in the morning to visit the Marigudi temple in Kaup. The burglary came to light when she returned later in the day.

According to the complaint filed by Nalinakshi with the police, the thieves gained entry by breaking open the rear door of the house. They ransacked the cupboards and drawers, eventually locating the keys kept inside a bedroom cupboard to unlock the safe locker. They walked away with five gold rings, a bracelet, and a chain.
The burglars also targeted another bedroom, thoroughly searching the wardrobe there. In total, approximately 21 grams of gold ornaments were stolen from the house.
The Mulki police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
