Gurgaon Factory Violence: Contractor, 11 Workers Arrested


Gurgaon, Mar 21 (IANS): A labour contractor and 10 workers of an export house were arrested Tuesday in connection with Monday's violence by employees, police said, adding a court has sent them to judicial custody

On the complaint of Jagdish Bains, the production manager of Orient Craft, a FIR has been lodged at Kherki Daula Police station against its workers of Orient Craft on the charges of attempted murder, preventing government officials from performing their duty, destroying public property and other charges.

"Police have arrested 10 workers. They were produced in Judicial Magistrate 1st class, Surya Chandre Kant's court and were sent to 14 days of judicial custody," said police officer Manoj Kumar.

The second FIR have been filed on the complaint of worker Rajesh Kumar against contractor Harender Singh alias Lovely. The contractor was also arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Workers of Orient Craft, Monday had turned violent, pelting stones at the company premises while shouting slogans against the management and accusing the contractor of assaulting them.

Along with the official vehicle of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Trafic) Ravinder Tomar, a fire brigade truck were among the 35 vehicles that were set ablaze by workers.

After dispute with workers over attendance, the contractor attacked three workers with scissor. Later in the clash with police, 15 workers and two policemen were injured.

Meanwhile, work at Orient Craft resumed Tuesday though the number of workers present was low.
