Mangaluru receives heavy overnight rain; showers continue on Friday

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jul 17: Heavy rain has been lashing Mangaluru since Thursday night, bringing much-needed relief to residents who had been worried over the prolonged dry spell. The rain continued through the night and was still falling on Friday morning, though with slightly reduced intensity.

The rain began at around 11 pm on Thursday and continued uninterrupted throughout the night. While its intensity eased slightly from Friday morning, the showers have continued across the city.

The heavy downpour led to flooding in Kottara Chowki, Kodialbail Bhagavathi Nagar, and several other low-lying areas. Residents in the affected localities spent a sleepless night as flood-like conditions developed.

Poor drainage caused roads to resemble flowing streams, while rainwater entered the compounds and, in some cases, the houses of residents, causing inconvenience and concern.
