Mangaluru: Shoals of sardines wash ashore at Ullal beach; locals gather catch

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jul 18: Large shoals of sardines (boothai) washed ashore at Ullal beach on Friday, giving local residents an unexpected and abundant catch.

According to locals, the shoals are believed to have changed direction after being disturbed by the sound of a passing fishing boat, causing them to wash up along the shoreline.

Around 11 am on Friday, residents noticed the large quantity of fish on the beach and collected them despite the strong waves.

While some sold the fish, others took them home for cooking. Locals said such incidents, in which large numbers of fish are washed ashore, occur only occasionally. A similar phenomenon was witnessed at Malpe a few months ago.
