Udupi, Jul 21: Roshan Lobo (41) of Hosala, Barkur, secured a bronze medal in the 83 kg category at the National Classic Powerlifting Championship held at Garkheda Stadium in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, on Monday.

Representing Karnataka, Lobo finished third in the highly competitive national championship, adding another achievement to an impressive season that began with a podium finish at the State Powerlifting Championship in Mangaluru earlier this year.

His latest success comes after competing in the All-India Masters Powerlifting Championship earlier this month, making it his second national-level appearance in a short span. Notably, Lobo competed in the 83 kg category after moving down from the 93 kg division, a transition that required significant weight management while maintaining competitive strength.

Despite a demanding work schedule that limits regular training, Lobo has continued to prepare under the guidance of coach Nithin Poojari at J P Gym, Barkur, making the most of every opportunity to train. His disciplined approach and determination have now been rewarded with a national medal.

The bronze medal also highlights Lobo's ability to compete successfully beyond the Masters category, proving his strength against some of the country's top lifters in the Classic division.

Lobo qualified for the national championships after his strong performance at the Karnataka State Powerlifting Championship in Mangaluru, where he represented the Karnataka Powerlifting Association. His podium finish in Aurangabad marks a significant milestone in his powerlifting career and brings pride to Karnataka and his hometown of Barkur.
