Mangaluru, Jul 22: Karnataka health minister U T Khader has urged every Jamaat to ensure that all Waqf properties, including those belonging to mosques and madrasas, have proper and updated registration documents to safeguard them for the future.
Speaking after handing over registration documents of Waqf institutions at a programme organised by the DK GCC coordination committee at a private hotel in Mangaluru on Tuesday, Khader said several mosques and madrasas in Dakshina Kannada had incomplete or improper property records, creating hurdles in registration.
He said that after the issue was brought to his notice, he convened a meeting of senior and junior officials of the concerned departments, which helped resolve documentation issues for several Waqf properties. He credited the Dakshina Kannada Waqf advisory committee, the DK GCC coordination committee and advocates for their efforts in facilitating the process.
Khader noted that registration of several mosque and madrasa properties is still pending and assured that another meeting with officials would be convened to address the remaining cases. He appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate in completing the documentation process in a phased manner.
Former chairman of the Dakshina Kannada District Waqf advisory committee Nasir Lakkistar presided over the programme. Coastal Development Authority chairman M A Gaffoor, NRI entrepreneurs Zakaria Jokatte, Farooq Mulki and Abdul Hameed RMX, BCCI president S M Rashid Haji, former corporator Ravoof Bajal, Sinan Sakhafi, Anees Kausari and Muhammed Kunhi also addressed the gathering. State Waqf Council member Abdul Rahman Kodijal and DK GCC coordination committee finance in-charge Farooq Abbas were present on the dais.
On the occasion, Khader said the Muslim community should organise a thanksgiving programme for former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, stating that his government had introduced several welfare schemes and released substantial grants for the community. He also suggested organising a felicitation programme for the new Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on behalf of the community.
Khader further said that as government officials and staff had played an important role in resolving documentation issues of Waqf properties, every Jamaat should present letters of appreciation to them.
Several office-bearers of the DK GCC coordination committee, including Kabir Lucky, Rafiq K H, Muhammed Mateen, Kabir K M, Farooq Portway, Kasim, Danish, Syed Taml, Hafeez Sasko, Basheer Al Falak, Arif Jokatte, K C Muhammed Ali and Zain Jeddah, attended the programme. Advocate Zeeshan Ali welcomed the gathering, while Saifuddin Bajpe compered the event.
