Azamgarh (UP), Jul 23: Senior Samajwadi Party leader and five-time MLA Alam Badi Azmi passed away at his residence in Azamgarh on Wednesday night. He was 92.

Azmi, who represented the Nizamabad Assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh district five times, had been unwell for some time, family sources said.

His son, Mustajab Alam, said the veteran legislator breathed his last at his residence in the Kurmi Tola locality of the city.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav expressed grief over Azmi's demise and paid tribute to the senior leader.

"The passing of Janab Alam Badi Sahib — a senior Samajwadi Party leader and the popular MLA from the Nizamabad constituency in Azamgarh — is deeply saddening. May God grant peace to the departed soul. May the bereaved family find the strength to bear this immense grief. Heartfelt tributes," Yadav said in a condolence message.
