Bantwal, July 23: Vittal police have arrested a man who had remained absconding for nearly eight years after allegedly failing to appear before the court in connection with a theft case registered in 2017.
The arrested accused has been identified as Vijaya (32), a resident of Kalluru in Mangaluru.
He was booked in Vittal police station Crime No. 45/2017 under Section 379 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police said Vijaya had been evading court proceedings for around eight years and had not appeared for hearings in the case during this period.
Acting on information, Vittal police personnel PC Shivananda and PC Yenkappa traced and arrested him in Mangaluru on July 23, 2026. He was later produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Further investigation and legal proceedings in the case are under way.
