Jerusalem, Jul 24: An Israeli national has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a 40-year-old Indian migrant worker in Jerusalem, police said.

The victim was found dead inside a house in the Katamon neighbourhood on Thursday. According to Israeli police, officers from the Moria Police Station reached the spot after receiving information and found the man lying on the floor with blood around him.

"Forensic investigators and police officers immediately began an initial investigation at the scene. Preliminary findings indicate that the incident is suspected to be criminal in nature," the Israel Police Spokesperson's Unit said.

During the investigation, police identified a 31-year-old resident of Eilat as a suspect and arrested him on suspicion of involvement in the murder. The suspect has been taken into custody and is being questioned.

The identity of the deceased Indian national and the arrested suspect has not been disclosed by authorities.

Jerusalem District Commander Avshalom Peled visited the scene and conducted a security assessment with senior police officials. The investigation has been handed over to the Jerusalem District Central Unit (YAMAR).

Chief Superintendent Yuval Reuven, Commander of the Moria Police Station, said police had sealed the area and initiated investigative procedures after receiving reports of a person found dead inside the house.

"The investigation led to the swift arrest of a suspect believed to be involved in the murder. Further investigative steps are underway to uncover the details of the incident," Reuven said.

Police officials said the probe into the case is continuing.
